Degradable plastics improvements
Symphony Environmental Ltd recently announced further expansion of its eco-friendly 100 per cent degradable plastic which has many household applications in the from bin liners, refuse sacks, carrier bags and food packaging. Currently UK landfills receive around 85 per cent of the UK's rubbish but with the newly introduced plastic the average lifespan and productivity of landfill sites could be improved by 20-25 per cent. This would assist local authorities in meeting their recycling targets through organic waste collection and composting schemes. Fyffes, the international distributor of bananas, has chosen Symphony packaging on a world-wide basis, while a number of UK councils and local authorities have placed significant orders. In the UK the products have won the Design Council's Millennium Product Status as well as the Green Apple Award. The products are available at stores nationwide allowing people to"go green" at an affordable price.
