Hospital Caterers Association Conference (HCA), Pride or Prejudice?, held at Birmingham NEC Hilton Conference Centre, Thursday 24 April 2003
The Hospital Caterers Association (HCA) is the professional association for those involved in hospital catering. The membership includes catering managers,suppliers of goods and services, members of the better hospital food group and dietitians. The HCA holds regular meetings for members as well as producing a journal. The annual conference was held at Birmingham NEC Hilton Conference Centre on Thursday 24 April 2003, it was well attended by the membership and also other interested parties. The conference included the following presentations:

“The national agenda”. Meeting customer expectations. The future for basic care services. By Peter Wearmouth, Chief Executive NHS Estates.
“Better hospital food”. Dreams or deliverance? A review and a vision for the future. By Lloyd Grossman, Chair Better Hospital Food Panel.
“Perceptions of healthcare catering”. A reflection on the media’s view. By Forbes Mutch, Editor Caterer & Hotelkeeper Magazine.
“Work smarter”. Addressing the challenge of e-commerce in the NHS. By Eric Jackson, Director for E-commerce, NHS Purchasing & Supply Agency.
“The positive message”. Promotion and marketing yourself, your team and your service. “We need to be the industry of choice that the best people aspire to join because of enviable career pathways, competitive working conditions and because we care about them and their future”. There was also an exhibition for commercial organisations.
