Care for your catering

The National Association of Care Catering (NACC) annual conference was attended by a variety of people with an interest in catering for elderly people in a community setting.

The conference opened with a presentation from a celebrity chef who had got involved in developing recipes and improving the menus in a local home for elderly people. As can be already shown the involvement of celebrity chefs in both hospital and school meals has dramatically improved their profile.

Presentations on the following aspects of diet and the elderly were given:

  • Healthcare Caterers International (wwww.hciglobal.org)was given by William St John

  • Food allergies and food intolerances and the growing request for such diets(the book review focuses on a book produced by the presenter of this paper)

  • A speaker from Water UK discussed the importance of hydration

  • Healthy eating in the elderly

  • Nutritional screening

  • Healthy eating

The conference was also complimented by a number of exhibition stands from various organisations.
