Definitions can be tedious and pedantic, but I have noticed recently that standard industry terms I thought I was clear about have been used in unexpected ways. Being relatively new to this field I assumed the fault was mine and that in an industry so concerned with words it was unlikely that anyone else would be guilty of sloppy thinking or imprecise expression! So I would like to make clear what I mean by certain terms. I must emphasise that I will not say anything original about this — I simply would wish to avoid confusion.
