WILL THERE STILL BE A NEED FOR TRANSLATIONS IN THE YEAR 2000 OR WILL THERE BE JUST ONE UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED LANGUAGE USED FOR SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL WRITING?

Some time ago, I was asked if I would make a prediction for the year 2000 and describe the information world as I thought it would look with regard to translations at the turn of the millennium. At the time of being asked, the deadline was months away and I easily let my arm be twisted into taking part in this futurology exercise. More recently I was suddenly reminded of my promise and forced to seriously sit down, get out the crystal ball and organise my ideas on the subject.
