The Second International World Wide Web Conference: Mosaic and the Web took place in Chicago on 17 October. More than 1300 delegates took part, compared with the 300‐plus who participated in the first event, at CERN in Switzerland only six months previously. This leap in interest may be attributed to the enormously rapid growth in the number of World Wide Web (WWW) sites, and of the number of people around the world using free‐of‐charge browsing software in order to access them.
