To reallyunderstand what lies at the heart of this book, one needs to understand the larger history of the university particularly in the USA, Michael Crow’s tenure with the Global Institute for Sustainability at Columbia and what is actually transpired and is transpiring at Arizona State University (ASU). Unfortunately, the authors spend a great deal of this volume citing the standard literature on the history and philosophy of higher education that is available in numerous volumes, many of which are cited in the footnotes and references.
