Article Type: Authors' Rejoinders From: On the Horizon, Volume 22, Issue 1

I thank Pollard (2014) for his comments on my essay (Scott, 2014). While he cites his experience at Truman State, I have experience at Bucknell University, Cornell University, the Indiana system of higher education, the New Jersey system of higher education, and Adelphi, from which I have become acquainted with the private institutions in New York State. Over these years, I have observed the state of general education and liberal education at many institutions. It is from this experience that I draw my observations and formulate my recommendations.

I also was one of the four founders of Council on Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC) in 1986. One of the reasons I conceived and helped form the group was that there were too few occasions for campus presidents to talk about matters of curriculum and student education. I am glad Pollard is carrying on in that tradition.

Rejoinder by Robert A. Scott, President of Adelphi University, Garden City, New York, USA.
