The London Borough of Tower Hamlets has given the Crown Estate Commissioners planning consent for the redevelopment of the former Royal Mint site, London EC3. The 6.5‐acre site — situated north of Tower Bridge, opposite the Tower of London — will provide more than 550,000 sq. ft gross of offices in four new blocks and a refurbished building; more than 80 residential units in two blocks; a community centre; shops; a museum complex; leisure facilities; parking; and public open spaces. The total cost of the scheme, which should be completed by the end of 1988, is estimated to be in the region of £120m.
