Powder Coaters's Manual, edited by Rodger Talbert and published by Vincentz Verlag, goes beyond the fundamentals by offering an in-depth look at the issues affecting the day-to-day operation of a powder coating system. Powder Coaters's Manual is designed to be a source of information and daily reference guide for all powder coaters. Equipment options, process control issues and specific application guidance are included in the text. Those who are relatively new to powder coating will find information necessary during the learning process. Experienced coaters will appreciate more advanced issues on equipment and process control.
Each chapter is supported by charts, graphs, tables and illustrations for quick access of information on important issues. The manual also covers all of the sub-systems and processes that are used in powder coating. The emphasis is on the application process and the different forces that affect efficiency. This manual will assist the operator with advice for application challenges such as Faraday cage effect,film build control, film texture, back ionization and control of surface defects.
The base manual, a hard cover binder, contains the following 11 loose leaf chapters:
(1)powder coating materials;
(2)part preparation processes and equipment;
(3)powder application processes and equipment;
(4)powder booths and recovery systems;
(5)curing process and equipment;
(6)material handling;
(7)finished film testing;
(8)process control;
(9)system maintenance;
(10)troubleshooting;and
(11)cost analysis.
Supplements of updated material will be shipped twice each year so that the operators can maintain an up-to-date manual on their shelves. All key issues in the manual are underlined and indexed for easy reference by the operator.
The Powder Coater's Manual was researched and developed by Rodger Talbert, an independent consultant to the surface finishing industry. Mr Talbert serves as technical director of the Chemical Coaters Association and has authored a series of training manuals for coaters as well as contributing to books published by The Powder Coating Institute and SME.
