Kemira chooses Vixen

The Vixen Jetair blast-cleaning machine has been identified as having a precise laboratory function by Kemira Coatings of West Bromwich (Plate 5).

The Industrial Division of Kemira Coatings, is a leading UK-based supplier of industrial paints and surface coatings for metal and plastic substrates and manufactures a wide range of products for leading companies in specialised market areas.

The paints it produces must do more than look good on the finished article they must protect the underlying substrate from breakdown and corrosion and provide a finish that will endure a multitude of adverse conditions.

Martin Carter, applications engineer, based at their West Bromwich plant, was looking for a machine to simulate their existing and potential customers' substrate preparation prior to paint or powder coating. Martin required a machine that would be used from a laboratory point of view. The machine needed to be set up differently on a daily basis depending on the required pressure and media.

After testing various blast-cleaning machines with no luck, Martin contacted Vixen Surface Treatments at Stockton-on-Tees to see what they had to offer. Their expertise eventually lead to Kemira Coatings purchasing a VM30XP which enabled Martin to produce the specific required finish for existing and potential customers.

According to Vixen, the VM30XP can be set up depending on what level of pressure is needed and which type of media will give the right surface finish. This machine enabled him to achieve the closest shot blast profile in microns to simulate their existing customer profiles.

Not only can the Vixen Jetair machine be used to continually blast-clean the same types of components on a relatively large scale but, as highlighted by Kemira Coatings, it can have a very precise laboratory use.

Martin Carter said, "We found the Vixen machine was able to meet our specific requirements and produce consistent high quality results on all substrates including heavily contaminated items such as castings and fabricated parts prior to applications".
