The new "Prima" series of microprocessor controlled laboratory heaters from Grant Instruments is thought to provide an ideal solution for everyday dry block heating requirements, with a host of features aimed at making life easier in the laboratory (Plate 8).

Six models are available for one, two or 4four blocks in two series. The"UBD" models incorporate all the standard features expected on premium priced dry block units. Grant's high performance "UBR" models additionally claim a data monitoring capability via an RS 232 interface and an in-built timer along with a useful time saving programmable delayed start.

The "Prima" series of block heaters is considered to afford high accuracy and reliability, attractive styling, with a low profile and small footprint. They can reportedly accommodate samples in tubes, vials or slides for temperature control over a range from just above ambient to 130°C. A powerful heater produces rapid heating from ambient to 1008C in just 16 minutes. An optional external probe is available for exact in-block temperature control and an auto two-point calibration facility is also provided. All units have an angled display panel and touch-sensitive keys for easy operation and are housed in a rugged waterproof enclosure.

The "Prima" series of block heaters, along with the wide range of accessories, all bear the CE mark and are supported by Grant's comprehensive three-year warranty. The products are available all over the world through an extensive network of local laboratory distributors.
