The Process Industries Centre for Manufacturing Excellence, PICME, reports a growing response from UK chemicals sector to its cost-saving work-study and improvement techniques and recently undertook a total of three, week-long, work study intensives involving three manufacturing companies at the heart of the process and chemicals industry.

PICME clients, Rohm and Haas, Fisher Chemical and Novart is featured as the first three UK chemicals sites to be involved in different productivity enhancements with the UK wide based consultancy.

PICME is also ran a special introductory seminar, in January, on benchmarking for the chemicals sector which was sponsored by BOC and organised by the Chemical Industries Association Manufacturing Committee.

"Measurement is the necessary beginning to all of our work,'' says PICME chief executive Mark Lewis "and from the outset we have had a lot of preliminary discussions about it with chemicals and based process companies. I'm delighted to say that three pharmaceutical and chemical industry clients decided to move forward from those conversations to practically improving performance and are undertook intensive cost-saving and productivity improvement workshops with us.''
