In the construction of chemical plant, one of the problems the design engineer has to contend with is the effect of corrosion by the chemicals employed in the processes on the materials used to construct plant, manufacturing vessels, floor areas, effluent lines, fume stacks, etc. If the materials used in construction are not carefully selected, corrosion can rapidly occur, necessitating costly maintenance work and often resulting in expensive plant breakdowns.
