Luminescent pigments have the property of absorbing light which falls upon them and re‐emitting it over a period of some hours, on a different wave‐length. They should not be confused with fluorescent pigments which will only emit light whilst receiving excitation, such as visible or ultraviolet light. The colour of the emission from these pigments is independent of the type of excitation.
