Organoclay gellants have been well established as stable, effective viscosifying agents for the paint, coatings and ink industries for many years. The conventional organoclays used, however, present some processing difficulties as they require high shear rate mixing and the correct choice and level of a polar additive to achieve maximum performance. In addition, a range of gellants has been necessary to enable systems of differing polarity to be viscosified effectively.
