In spite of the ongoing process of the big group philosophy within the paint cum pigment cum resin cum solvent industry, competition remains battle‐zonish. Paint salesmen and their auxiliaries still move around in assault teams; printing ink people are still as active as investigative reporters; resin reps accost at every available opportunity and the solvent boys are as on the ball as any shock troops. Peaceful coexistence is only an abstract phrase to such participants, valid perhaps as a strategy for politicians seeking to put off the dreadful day, but pie‐in‐the‐sky for those who hustle for a living in dear old England, mainland Europe, and indeed, the world.
