To commemorate the bicentenary of the birth of Michael Faraday, HRH Prince Michael of Kent, president of the Royal Institution, was the principal guest at The Institute of Metal Finishing's recently held reception in the august surroundings of Goldsmiths Hall, London, where a collection of gold plate was on display for the occasion. Other guests represented a wide variety of metal industries spanning heavy industry to precious metal craftsmen, physicists, chemists and members of parliament who gathered to commemorate a man who revolutionised metal finishing as the father of electroplating.
