A new machine for producing samples of paint, varnishes and other surface coatings under precisely controlled conditions, has been developed by R K Print‐Coat Instruments Ltd, Litlington, Royston, England. Known as the K Control Coater, the equipment will produce samples on many different substrates, such as metal plates, rigid plastics, glass and other materials for colour‐matching and sample approval, as well as for abrasive, weather and degradability testing. Precise control of pressure and of coating speed ensure repeatable results from equipment which is simple to operate and to clean. For comparing two coatings side‐by‐side (Fig. 1), the machine produces, in one operation on a single substrate, two samples which touch without mixing.
