Clear lacquers are still being used extensively for the finishing of wooden furniture. We have to realise, however, that we could apply a variant here of the well‐known proverb: “All is not ‘wood’ that glitters”, because much “wood” appears not to be wood at all upon closer inspection, but paper or plastic printed with a wood imitation. Besides, many cheap types of wood are printed with an “expensive” imitation.
