During the past two years we have voiced our opinion, more than once, on the growing preoccupation of industry in general and the surface coatings industry in particular with all aspects of health and safety. It is, of course, the fashionable thing to do. Our criticism of this attitude is certainly not motivated by a desire for the return of laissez faire capitalism or a disconcern for the health and safety of those working in our industry. It is that we are suffering from severe over‐legislation which is now beginning to stifle research and development.
