Archco-Rigidon lining for giant chalk pits

Millennium Inorganic Chemicals Ltd of Stallingborough, near Grimsby, is the world's second largest producer of titanium dioxide, the white pigment that is extensively used in paint coatings, printing inks, quality paper coatings, among other applications,The company, formerly known as SCM Chemicals Ltd, joined the Millennium Chemicals group 12 months ago following the demerging of the Hanson Group.

Millennium Inorganic Chemicals' Stallingborough site is currently undergoing a £75m expansion,with one-third of this being spent on environmental protection measures designed to meet all existing and proposed local, UK and EEC legislation.

As part of the effluent treatment programme MIC has installed two 150m3 concrete pits to hold the chalk that is used as part of a waste neutralisation system. In order to give long life protection to the concrete from both the alkaline pH and abrasive action of the chalk, Millennium Inorganic Chemicals' engineers chose Winn &Coales Archco-Rigidon 723D lining.

Archco-Rigidon System 723D is a heavy duty lining formulated from a vinyl ester resin reinforced with chopped strand glass fibre mat. It has been widely used in the chemical industry because of its long life in acid, alkaline and corrosive conditions.
