A new high technology plant, opened by Sericol Limited, claims it gives its employees some of the best working conditions in the ink making industry. Rexson Colorweigh gravimetric dispensing systems have been installed to help achieve these high standards.
Sericol is a manufacturer of inks and stencil products for the screen printing industry. Substantial investment has been made by Sericol to increase manufacturing capacity over the next five years, while improving already high customer service levels. Rexson Colorweigh gravimetric dispensers help achieve this, by making the blending and formulation of inks a cleaner, faster, more efficient and accurate process.
Two Rexson Colorweigh dispensers and pumping systems have been installed, which can each dispense up to 37 ingredients. Each of the dispensers has two scales, which allow quantities from 10kg to 1,000kg to be dispensed to an accuracy of ±1g, straight into the container in which the ink will be despatched to customers.
This automation of the production process has made it faster, as well as cleaner, to mix inks, as less manual handling of materials is necessary, and fewer stages are involved.
Rexson Colorweigh Ink Management System software allows Sericol to track and trace materials and finished inks throughout the production process. Storage of finished inks is minimised, as repeat batches can be produced accurately to the same recipe every time. The system can also work out the emissions of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) for each dispense using information stored on its database.
Ink Management System software can be linked to the main factory computer system to provide on-line management and status reports.
Four previous sites have been amalgamated on the new Sericol site at Broadstairs, which houses advanced manufacturing and research facilities, as well as a training school.
