Keywords Cray Valley, Resins

Cray Valley Ltd, one of the UK's largest resin suppliers, has awarded its national bulk distribution contract to TDG Nexus in a six-year deal worth £6 million following a competitive tender. TDG's bulk logistics specialist will be responsible for the distribution of finished products and the collection of compatible inbound raw materials (Plate 18).

Cray Valley, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Total, manufactures coating resins for use in decorative and industrial paints, and structural resins used in the composite injection moulding of glass reinforced plastics. The contract involves handling loads totalling 50,000 tonnes on an annual basis to support the manufacturing facilities in Machen, South Wales and Stallingborough on the Humber Bank.

TDG Nexus has undertaken a major vehicle investment to handle the new contract. This consists of eight ERF EC11 tractor units and 16 new Clayton Commercial tanks including three twinpots designed for smaller loads. The tanks incorporate a solvent injection system to facilitate effective tank cleaning and prevent manual handling issues that would arise from the use of drums.
