International Paints has specified Pyroban Ex-tec explosion protection for a fleet of electric Hyster trucks for use at its Houston manufacturing plant in the USA (Plate 13).
Producers of paint products, International Paints is a member of the Courtaulds Group and has manufacturing operations around the globe. For many years, the company has relied on Pyroban explosion-proof systems to ensure the safe operation of diesel and electric powered fork trucks within potentially hazardous areas at its UK sites at Newcastle and London. The proven reliability of the Pyroban equipment at these UK facilities prompted International Paints to award Pyroban Limited an important contract to protect a fleet of four electric Hyster trucks specified for the company's manufacturing operation at Houston,USA.

Supplied and serviced by Stewart and Stevenson, Hyster dealer in Houston,the 2,500kg capacity trucks operate within paint manufacturing and blending facilities at the International Paints plant. These potentially hazardous areas are designated Class 1, Division 1. Pyroban enclosures protect various parts of the trucks to eliminate possibilities of sparks or high temperatures igniting flammable gases, vapours and liquids which may be present during paint production. The explosion proof trucks ensure safe movement of a wide range of loads including pallets containing powder pigment, drums of solvents and chemicals plus special bulk paint "kettles".
