Zeneca Resins buys acrylic dispersions business from DSM Resins

Zeneca Resins (Waalwijk, The Netherlands) recently reached an agreement with the Coating Resins business unit of DSM Resins (Zwolle, The Netherlands)concerning the purchase of part of DSM's industrial polymer dispersions business. The acquisition involves DSM's products, know-how and deliveries to existing customers. Plant and machinery will remain the property of DSM Resins,which intends to use them for the production of other materials. The sale is in keeping with DSM Resins' specialization strategy and has no consequences for its employees.
Over the past several years the DSM Coating Resins business unit has been concentrating on powder coating resins, can and coil coating resins and automotive and decorative coating resins. In 1992 it sold its dispersions for nonindustrial applications to Hoechst. It also hived off its printing ink and adhesives activities. Now part of its industrial-applications dispersions are being divested.
DSM Resins is convinced that the sale is a good move. Customers demand and expect high-quality products and excellent service. DSM Resins' industrial dispersions business will be in a better position when it forms part of a specialists company like Zeneca Resins. "The sale of the acrylic dispersions to Zeneca Resins is in line with the overall strategy of DSM to focus on its core business. It complements the sale of the vinylversetate and vinylacetate products to Indulor Chemie (Germany) earlier this month", says Herman Nanninga,marketing and sales director of the business unit Coating Resins of DSM.
