International Coatings reports that it has acquired the Chartek hydrocarbon fire-protection coatings business of Textron Systems, a subsidiary of the US-based multi-industry company, Textron, Inc. International Coatings is part of Akzo Nobel's Marine and Protective Coatings Business Unit. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Speaking in London recently, Leif Damer, Managing Director of the Business Unit, said: "The addition of hydrocarbon fire protection products to our already extensive range of high performance protective coatings differentiates us from our key competitors in the global oil and gas markets. It will enable us to offer customers a worldwide single source for coatings on both new building and maintenance contracts. Furthermore, this acquisition will provide a platform for International Protective Coatings to further develop these specialised products for the hydrocarbon and cellulosic fire protection markets."
