PPG creates e-commerce unit

PPG Industries reports that it has launched a strategic business unit that will be responsible for its electronic-commerce efforts - while identifying additional opportunities to leverage the company's strengths on the Internet,said Raymond W. LeBoeuf, board chairman and chief executive officer.

"Each of our businesses has an e-commerce strategy, which must be balanced with the demands of their more traditional operations" LeBoeuf said. "With the creation of this new unit, we now have a dedicated resource to pursue e-commerce initiatives throughout the company."

Maurice Peconi, vice-president, architectural coatings, has been elevated to vice-president reporting directly to LeBoeuf for e-commerce, insurance and services, and other emerging technologies.
