DHAS becomes single supplier for the new Toyota plant in FranceKeywords: Du Pont, Toyota,Coating
Earlier this year, Japan's top automaker Toyota inaugurated a new plant in the French town of Onnaing near Valenciennes. The production site will have an annual capacity of 150,000 Yaris sub-compact vehicles. Toyota reports that it will procure most of the materials for the complete paint build-up from just a single supplier: Du Pont Herberts AutomotiveSystems (DHAS).
The range of materials supplied comprises cathodic dip-coating, filler,water-borne basecoat and 2K clear. In addition, the range includes refinishing materials and plastic coatings as well as thinners.
An intensive cooperation between Toyota, coating suppliers and plant engineering experts to evaluate various paints systems has been in place since 1998. The Japanese joint venture partner, Herberts Shinto AutomotiveSystems, assisted DHAS in the implementation of technical approval programmes.
Another pro for DHAS was the positive cooperation with Toyota in the UK,where the company has supplied the Bumaston plant with water-borne basecoat, clear and other products since 1992. The coatings supplier received several awards and letters of recognition for its service and product quality in the UK.
DHAS supplies the paints for the French Toyota plant from four European production sites. The coatings supplier's international service team is always on site to ensure the smooth operation of the finishing process.
