Elastomer for window sealsKeywords:Atofina, Sealing

Atofina reports that it has developed Sunfrost®, described as a new thermoplastic elastomer designed primarily for the all-round sealing of fixed glass windows in cars. This new product complements the existing Sunprene range for external automotive applications (profiles, windscreen seals, etc.).

Sunfrost can reportedly be injection-moulded into components with a perfectly matt finish, just like rubber.

As with all functional and decorative automotive joints, window seals require a matt finish. This can reportedly be achieved with Sunfrost during the moulding process itself; representing, it is thought, a major advantage over other materials, including in productivity terms. In addition, Sunfrost components are said to retain their original finish over time, with the same long-term stability as Sunprene extruded profiles and joints.

In addition to its injection moulding properties, Sunfrost claims outstanding physical and mechanical characteristics, in particular ageing and weathering resistance – a host of qualities that are said to make it a highly cost-effective material.

Sunfrost was chosen in particular to seal-in the rear quarter lights of the new Citroën C5.
