Mono Pumps Ltd recently introduced their Widethroat W Range pump at EFTEC Ltd. U.K, manufacturers of sealers, coatings and adhesives for the automotive industry.

EFTEC Ltd, based near Abedare, South Wales, UK, required a pump that was able to handle the high viscosity PVC materials without generating high pressures. Mono Pumps are said to have provided the ideal solution with the installation of a Widethroat W range pump which is reported to be specifically designed for sensitive, high viscosity materials (Plate 3).

According to Mono the CWO84 pump allows the materials to be pumped throughout the system more effectively. Running at low speeds, the pump reportedly reduces heat generation and enables pumping times to decrease from 45 minutes to 12 minutes. The effectiveness of the W Range pump is also believed to have eliminated the need for a booster pump, reducing operating costs even further for the customer.

The simplistic design of the progressing cavity pump is believed to make it ideal for high viscosity or shear sensitive applications. Mono explains that the rotary action of the positive displacement pump generates pressure at any speed, and does not require centrifugal force or high rotational speeds to operate. As the pump does not rely on any centrifugal action for its operation, there are no large changes in fluid velocity. Agitation and turbulence are therefore stated to be minimal, and shear sensitive products can be pumped without damage.

Widethroat pump designs are said to be a good choice for delivering a steady flow of viscous materials, which benefit from the slow running speeds and gentle handling made possible by the pc pump action.

The Widethroat range from Mono Pumps has the option of an integral bridge breaker, large auger, adjustable stators and varying hopper sizes to suit all applications. A pump fitted with an integral bridge breaker or large auger can reportedly handle a dry solids content approaching 40 per cent.

Available as both close coupled or as a standard pump, the simple design and the use of a plug in shaft facility is also said to provide easy cleaning and maintenance, resulting in reduced downtime and increased productivity.

Reliability is stated to be further enhanced by the fact that Mono Pumps manufactures all critical components including rotors and moulded-to-metal stators for the Widethroat range, resulting in total control over tolerances during manufacture and ensuring consistent quality and performance.
