Powder processing systems improve paint and toner quality

Paint producers and powder manufacturers are constantly seeking to produce higher quality, more consistent paint and toner products, the onus is therefore on the processing industry to develop new techniques for the accurate sizing and control of particulate materials.

A UK powder processing specialist British Rema has responded by making some exceptional advances to air classification technology for powders.

British Rema's AJ Minisplit machine combines the dual functions of classification and jet milling in one machine – with the obvious cost and time advantages of using just one machine to perform two functions.

The machine is capable of narrow band size distributions and is said to be highly effective in classifying particles ranging in size from one to 75 microns.

Although originally designed for the pharmaceutical industry, the machine is believed ideal for use for any powder processing requirement, such as the paint and toner industry, where a high degree of classification accuracy and a sterile operation is essential. Good particle dispersion coupled with a scientifically designed rotating element enabled the classifier to separate a wide variety of dry powdered materials into two distinct factions – one above and the other below a determined cut size.

The machine is constructed of stainless steel and claims ease of maintenance and cleaning, ensuring good manufacturing practice (GMP). British Rema also supplies all the necessary PLC control equipment, which provides manual or automatic operation of the air classification system and links up to the customer's computer system.
