Call for Papers: Color Cosmetics World Summit 2003 Montréal, 20-22 October, Canada
The third annual international decorative cosmetics conference, “The Color Cosmetics World Summit 2003,” will be held on 20-22 October 2003 at the Renaissance Montréal Hotel in Montréal, Québec, Canada. This follows the highly-acclaimed 2001 summit held in Nice, France and the 2002 summit held in Delray Beach, Florida. Conference Director Dr Hugh Olmstead today issued a “Call for Papers” for the Montréal meeting.
“This conference will focus on the mega trends, technical innovations and new market opportunities for functional colors and additives in decorative cosmetics”, said Dr H.D. Olmstead, Intertech’s Manager of pigment studies. “Conference sessions will cover the market drivers and growth outlook for pigments, as well as formulating additives such as substrates, fillers, dispersants and emollients. Presentations will also cover new ways to test and color match pigments, and manufacturing and formulating issues. Emphasis will be given to the market trends, growth prospects, new business development opportunities, regulatory and safety issues, and the ever-changing definition of beauty and its effect on color cosmetics”.
This will be the third international conference on color cosmetics sponsored by Intertech Corporation, a specialty chemical, pigment and colors consultancy based in Portland, Maine, USA. One hundred and fifty delegates are expected to attend this event. It is designed for cosmetics manufacturers, ingredients suppliers, business development executives and regulatory experts concerned with current trends in the research, development and marketing of color cosmetic products for skin, eye, lip, nail, hair and body applications. The conference will feature 21 speakers, two panel discussions, and two 3 h seminars on manufacturing and formulating topics. There will also be a number of networking functions and an exhibit area for showcasing new cosmetic pigment, formulation technologies, products and services.
Color cosmetics are a $20 billion global industry, growing 6 percent annually. While there are significant variations in cosmetic use and product preference by world region, there is a continuing need for innovative new colors, pigments, substrates, vehicles and formulation additives in order to create novel effects to keep up with new definitions of beauty and allure. Using innovative chemistry and novel physical effects, formulators have been able to provide a wide array of glitter, metallic, opalescent, iridescent, “wet look”, and texture effects.
The rise in allergic and environmentally-induced skin sensitivities has increased the need for more dermatological testing and incorporation of ancillary products such as vitamins, UV attenuators, and antioxidants. Because of recent moves in Japan to ban lanolin, collagen and other animal-derived products, plus new controversy over sunscreens, cosmetic manufacturers face an impending reformulation crisis which could have a major impact on color and pigment suppliers.
The Color Cosmetics World Summit 2003 will focus on the new pigment chemistries, formulations and manufacturing methods that can meet today’s safety and reformulation requirements, while providing new and aesthetically-pleasing color cosmetic products.
