Huntsman launches innovative Surfonamine®range for pigment dispersions

An innovative new range of polyetheramines called Surfonamine®amines from Huntsman Performance Products are set to improve the toolbox of any formulator creating pigment dispersions and pigment pastes for industrial and consumer paint, ink and coating applications.
Surfonamine® products can be used for pigment modification,for the synthesis of unique dispersant molecules, and as stabilization agents and dispersion aids. Specifically created to meet increased market demand for aqueous paint and ink formulations, they can play a critical role in dictating final formulation properties.
Designed to lower viscosity and reduce shear thinning, formulators will be able to use the unique hydrophilic or hydrophobic nature of Surfonamine®amine molecules to increase pigment loading in aqueous dispersions or pigment pastes. By adding a small amount of Surfonamine® products during manufacturing it will be possible to produce formulations that have greater stability over time, better ink transfer and improved color density. Additionally Surfonamine® additives do not impact on pigment color or effectiveness.

Huntsman Performance Products is an expert developer of amines that are regularly used in water and solvent- based inks, pigments and paints. Duy Nguyen from the Surfonamine® amine team presented a paper at the Ink Makers Forum at the European Coatings Show, Nürnberg, Germany on 27 April 2005. The presentation expanded on the performance properties and overall benefits of using Surfonamine® polyetheramines to assist with dispersion and stabilization in the manufacture of pigment dispersions.
Surfonamine® products are currently available for customer sampling. The first products available in the hydrophilic range are Surfonamine®L-100, L-200, L-207 and L-300 amines. In the hydrophobic range the first products available are Surfonamine® B-60, B-100 and B-200 amines.
