Halogen-free NcendX P-30 allows excellent recyclability of PC/ABS resins

This halogen-free, FR-based on Bisphenol A Diphenyl Phosphate (BPADP) shows exceptional recyclability compared to traditional halogen-free FR such as Resorcinol Diphenyl Phosphate (RDP).

Indeed, PC/ABS formulations containing NcendXe P-30 meet FR standards while:

  • avoiding loss of FR and physical properties during recycling; and

  • being compliant in use under the EU WEEE and RoHS Directives.

Figure 2 shows the exceptional impact strength sustainability of PC/ABS resin containing NcendX™ P-30 after recycling. The resin containing NcendXe P-30 remains unaffected whereas traditional products lose up to 60 percent of its mechanical property after five injection molding.

Figure 3 Comparison of 100 percent of humid aged recycled resins with the respective neat resins

Figure 3 clearly shows the exceptional retention of mechanical properties of humid aged recycled PC/ABS resin containing NcendX™ P-30 compared to the respective neat resin. NcendXe P-30-flamed retarded PC/ ABS improve property retention in terms of:

  • Tensile strength.

  • Flexural properties.

  • DTUL (Deflection Temperature Under Load).

The aged recycled resin flame retarded with a BPADP-based FR (resin B) shows the same mechanical properties as its neat resin, whereas flame retarded resin with traditional FR (resin A) indicates a severe polymer degradation.

In addition to these outstanding recycling properties, NcendX™ P-30 provides excellent hydrolytic stability for sensitive applications and shows lower volatility and better thermal melt stability than RDP (resorcinol diphenyl phosphate).
