This work will analyse the absorption behavior of Prangos-ferulacea, an Iranian natural dye, on wool fiber by using spectrophotometer data of a dye solution. Initially, wool yarn is scoured and mordanted with copper sulphate, and then dyed with Prangos-ferulacea. In the next stage, the wastewater from the dye bath is reused for wool dyeing. For the spectrophotometry study, the absorbance spectra of the dye solution are measured by a spectrophotometer. Then, the absorbance values of the dye solution are used to determine the dye concentrations in the wastewater of the dye bath and absorption by wool fibers. Subsequently, the first and second order derivatives of the absorbance spectra are used to calculate the dye concentrations in the wastewater of the dye bath and absorption by wool fibers. The results indicate that the best agreement is between the ordinary spectrophotometry and the first order derivative methods.
