A change in proportions of non-shrinkable and shrinkable acrylic fibres, affects the pilling properties of knitted fabrics. As the number of ICI tester rotations increased from 20,000 to 44,000, there was an increase in the number of small, medium and large pills that were produced. Because of their higher initial modulus, more non-shrinkable fibres are more likely to be damaged by friction, which seems to play a greater role in creating pills on the fabric surface.
