This substantial work is dedicated to the memory of Joan Lluis Gili i Serra (1907‐1998), Hispanist, international bookseller, publisher, and promoter in the UK of the language and literature of his homeland of Catalunya. My first acquaintance with Gili was in the Rhondda of 1936, later to be renewed in postwar Oxford, and continued, until his death, through Dolphin Books, publishers between 1936 and 1996 of 73 titles, 25 of them in Catalan.
