Catherine Cookson may not be every reference librarian’s natural book selection biographee, but there can be no doubting her fame. Ninety‐five million copies of her books sold; ten UK bestsellers; the most borrowed book from UK libraries since the establishment of Public Lending Rights in 1983; 16 novels filmed for TV; 98 books published; OBE and Dame of the British Empire and many other awards and honours.
