The mission statement for the Encyclopedia of Cajun Culture (EOCC) claims that the Web site “exists for the purpose of preserving and promoting Cajun culture, and for disseminating accurate information about Cajun culture for educational purposes.” Traditionally, a Cajun is considered “a Louisianan who descends from French‐speaking Acadians.” After perusing this encyclopedia, however, one learns that Cajuns may originate from other ethnic backgrounds including the Spanish, Irish and Basque cultures.
