The second edition of this encyclopedia of mathematics has been updated and enlarged with the addition of something like 3,600 entries. The format is still a combination of handbook, dictionary and encyclopedia, with the entries in strict alphabetical order, and with many providing cross‐references, not only to related entries in the text, but also to a number of Web sites. The majority of entries include lists of references to books and journal articles, all of which have been brought up to date for this edition.
