Contemporary African‐American philosophy is a recent establishment to the “institutions of philosophical world” (p. xiii). During the 1970s, the American Philosophical Association created the Committee on the Status of Blacks in the Profession (p. xiii). This action officially recognized African‐American philosophy as an interdisciplinary academic specialization.
