I must confess my scepticism of those publishers, and the related coterie of fellow academics, who select a group of people ‐ such as blacks, women, criminals, gays and lesbians ‐ and then proceed to compile an expensive reference book containing much material that can be found in more general reference sources. If I had any such unworthy thoughts concerning this book on “multicultural” writers, then they were quickly banished on the reading the preface, the introduction, and dipping into just a few entries.
