The Cambridge Companion to Molière

If theatres reflect human tragedy and comedy, libraries are at least partial memory banks of those theatrical reflections. Libraries help demonstrate how Molière has proven to be of relevance through the centuries with his satire of the excesses of human nature even if the political and social contexts have evolved hugely. Today we can still identify with his portrayal of human frailties: obsession with money and cliques, snobbery, pedantry, self‐pity, hypochondria, ruthless ambition and self‐promotion. Like Molière, we might still be able to laugh at our own personal failings.
