Many multicultural literature books are organized according to culture, which further emphasizes the differences between various cultures. Across Cultures stands out from other offerings by emphasizing the similarities that exist through many cultures. The authors, a public librarian and a school librarian with thirty years of experience in the fields of children and young adult librarianship, selected 465 books predominantly from the 1990s and 2000s that centre around six themes universal to all children.
