This is a revised and extended third edition of this dictionary only four years after publication of the second edition, and nine years since the first. (How the time flies – I reviewed the second edition three years ago (RR 2006/152) and it seems only like yesterday). This new edition contains approximately 27,000 entries (about 2,000 extra entries than in the second), 1,500 graphic figures and 46 tables (some in the appendix). It does provide encyclopaedic coverage of terms, techniques, people, laboratories, acronyms and places related to gems and gemology. Each entry includes scientific and historical information where necessary....
