Etymological Dictionary of Greek

Judging from the now two titles I have reviewed, this is an outstanding, almost extraordinary series. Title by title, the word base of the rich and varied languages derived from Indo‐European is studied, recorded and expounded as far back as the evidence or scholarly deduction allow. In many cases that is back to Indo‐European roots as constructed from comparative historical lexicography, while others remain if not shrouded in mystery, at least surrounded by some uncertainty. The Latin dictionary I have already reviewed (de Vaan, 2008) (RR 2009/225) covered the ancient range of Italic languages; Greek is different....
