“Islamism”, declares the editor of this book in its first words, “has become the most important political ideology and most powerful movement for change in the world”. If this is so, then it certainly merits a substantial reference work devoted to it. To this end, the editor has assembled forty scholars (mostly Western and only a quarter Muslim) who have each assessed the status of the movement in a particular part of the world.
