Anne Dunan‐Page says in her Introduction that “nothing can be taken for granted about this established and canonical author of the English speaking world”. Perhaps Bunyan's name is not the household word it used to be, but his work remains important in literary, historical, religious and political ways – and I suppose everyone is acquainted in some way with The Pilgrim's Progress.
