Philosopher John Locke (1632-1704) would have liked this book: it explains his ideas, it confirms his influence on later thinking, it highlights debates in his day which still matter now, it acknowledges the place of philosophy in the good humane society and it will help to sell more books (and, in the case of the extensive Locke critical bibliography, more books about books).
